SHORT TERM MEDICAL MISSION TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!

PLEASE NOTE CHANGES IN TRIP ITINERARY!!!

 __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The team will fly into CIBAO International Airport in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic and be taken by bus to the motel that we will call home for the next three nights.

The first two days of clinic will be held in Santiago providing medical care and education services to a local neighborhood.  Once we are finished with our work in Santiago we will continue on to the Tubagua Plantation Eco Village where the team will likely spend three nights and provide clinics in the surrounding communities.  This is a region with very limited access to healthcare and there is a strong need for our services.

Once our work is complete in the Tubagua region we will travel on to the village of Munoz where we will stay at "Sun Camp".  Sun Camp will be our base of operations for the remainder of our trip as we provide healthcare and health education services to the people of the local area where there is a large population of Haitian refugees that have been there since the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

The last two clinics of the trip will be held at the "Monkey Jungle" health clinic where the team will also have the opportunity to enjoy the zipline, Monkey Jungle trails and other activities available at their facility.   The Monkey Jungle compound was built and operates to generate revenue to support their free medical clinic.  Their clinic is open on Saturdays to provide free medical and dental services to area residents.   We will be providing services to students from nearby schools as well as the nearby communities.

We are excited to be returning to the Dominican Republic and the beginning of a sustainable Health and Education program to provide services to those in need in the Santiago region.

On the final day before departure we will do some sight seeing and spend some time on the beach before exiting the country from Puerta Plata on the north coast of the country.

This trip is rated as Moderate!

  • Amount of in-country travel:  (Moderate)  We will be traveling by bus from Santiago to two other locations within a 3 hour distance from Santiago.  From each housing location the team will only have short "out and back" daily commutes to the clinic locations.
  • Sleeping arrangements:  We will be housed in a local hotel during the stay in Santiago.  In Tubagua the team will be staying in palapa's (Thatched roof structures), and while at Sun Camp the team will stay in dormitory style housing.  All facilities have beds, restrooms and showers.
  • Running water/electricity:  We will have running water and shower facilities.  Electricity will be available most of the time.  The DR does experience rolling blackouts and you might be without electricity at times (particularily in the evenings)  All facilities have generator or solar power back up.  Wireless internet is available at the hotel in Santiago and at Suncamp.
  • Physical requirements:  This is a medium demand trip where most needs are comfortably provided for.
